I went to a well known Establishment for Dinner Boxing on Friday noticed a pint of Lager{Carling!} was £3.10
Can anyone beat this I wonder ?Who serves the Islands most expensive Pint and is it the best ?
I wonder where the cheapest on the Island is ,could it possibly be Sylvans sports bar ?

I read in the mail appx ten days ago that the average price of a pint in the UK was £4 .This was a rather good article citing increases in the costs of raw materials ,hops and barely due to crop shortages ,as being the driver for increases in beer prices in the UK.
Last week I paid and enjoyed a rather good pint of draught locally at £4.95. The lager was Italian and served in a stunning glass(which I couldn't keep)all served in a nice atmosphere by pleasant staff.
Today I get a further reminder that manufacturers increases are upon us citing not only the two 20% duty increases levied by the Guernsey Treasury over the last 15 months, but also the transport costs, shipping, fuel, glass bottles and labour costs as all being drivers to increased costs.
Well its all beginning to look like its coming home to roost in Guernsey. What with increased Liquor license charges,TRP,Fuel duty,Insurance and the rest of the increases ie cost of living I wonder what the % increases at the bar will be by the end of this year?
I also wonder if the price of a pint is included in that famous "shopping basket" that calculates Island inflation RPI ?
Yes its begining to bite !

It cant be can it?

All the increases because of the Black Hole affecting RPI?

Nope, it can't, 'cause someone 'said' the increases will not be inflationary....

Well now I have been informed by two other wine merchants that the reason the prices going up so much are as a result of the pounds poor performance against the euro.
In the last four months it has declined 15% so Macro economics also effect Guernsey aswell as The local micro economics ie Duty, and the other local increases.
Why we have to all enjoy it in the same year though is still a bit of a mystery.
So now, when Laurent Perrier rose champagne goes up £12 a bottle to the trade, my ears pick up !
American,Chilean,South African,Australian and New Zealand wines should not be affected though as they are obviously not linked to Euro.
If the pound continues to devalue at this rate the Island might be a less attractive place to work for our Guest workers.
Lets face it most European countries can offer a job at say 1000 euros a month. To work here on £1000 a month was more attractive but if the pound goes to parity with the euro then they will look to mainland Europe for work.
Serious consideration should be given by the Government before any more increases are visited upon us.
Inflation is surely going to soar ?
