| Looking for ideas to engage the membership. The site has been up and running some 3 months and Chamber has 600 members in all yet we only have 70 signed up and 4/5 regular posters. How do we inspire more members to get involved with the forum?

| Any thought on including the politicians. To me it would seem to make sense to give thme somewhere to talk about their views and thoughts on business related topics. It's secure here and I'm sure they won't get shouted at too much. Connecting business directly to representation would make some sense. I'd further suggest we expand the forum out to both GIBA and the CGI, it cost nothing and all viewing the same content would make sense wouldn't it?

| | That's not a bad idea. Chamber should be more inclusive and this closed forum would be less of a bear-pit than other online forums. I'd like to hear more from the politicians and beleive it will benefit all of us. Sensible debate, education and understanding from all parties can only be a positive. |

| | No sooner said than done. I contacted Mark Trenchard last night in an effort to sound out some of the ideas in cementing a closer relationship with the politicians on business related issues either through this forum and through the Chamber's monthly meetings. Mark agreed in principal and aloud me to chat to a couple of the politicians. Council Meetings On an adhoc basis and when business related issues are pertinent it may well be possible for politician A to set an hour aside for that policy or issue to be discussed at Chamber. It would be impossible for Chamber to set a 12 month agenda as none of us know what the policy of the moment might be. There are ongoing issues that Chamber hold important - Housing Licences, - Land Use, - St Peter Port Retail, - 0/10, etc. On any of these subjects we could invite politicians to present to Council Politician Comments: I spoke to both Barry Brehaut and Lyndon Trott about the idea and both of them agreed that the idea would be welcomed by our elected representatives. Lyndon did caveat this reminding me that he had an extremely busy schedule but saw no reason why the same invite could not go out to any of the Treasury Department who could represent his views. Barry as a Housing member was more than happy to engage with Council. In short, having spoke n to only two politicians both were warm to the concept. The Chamber Forum On a regular basis another tool for the Chamber and political inclusion was the this forum. I sounded the idea out with both of the above politicians; in general they were supportive of Chamber's forum. As a closed and well moderated forum where politicians were communicating with named individuals and not pseudonyms both thought there was value in Chamber's forum. So what do people think? The invitation to the forum is the easier bit. I can compile an invitation email to the politicians inviting them to sign up, that's a no brainer. The Council Meetings will take more discussion but, imho, worth pursuing.

| I've looked today, as someone sent me an email telling me to !! ......highlighting some interesting and provocative comments already made on the site.
Can I suggest more direct reminders out to members (it made me look) on a regular basis?
Ideally, I would like this nudge a week or so before Council members, particularly if agendas were somewhere on the site. I would be interested to see members comments on the issues up for discussion.

| Thanks for your support. We've put together sent ani invitation email out to all of the Deputies and await their response. Lets hope some of the islands elected representatives engage with us. The closer we all come together, the better for everyone I would argue.

| | Put the monthly council minutes on the forum and perhaps by letting the members who we represent know what we talk about, they might feel a little more inclined to join in !! Come on what do we have to hide apart from the next cunning plan on town parking !! |

| | Another thought !!! - Im on a role here, Instead of sending documents to all and sundry via email, why not post them on the forum and then send a link via email to send people to the appropriate post on the forum, thus driving traffic to the site. Add a comment at the bottom about signing up and you might get a bit more footfall that way. The current system does not encourage forum visits. Perhaps each email coming from the office should have a signature link on the bottom pointed at the forum ? |

| | I would support that suggestion. Having sat on Chamber Council and had sight of the minutes I've never read anything that couldn't be passed on to members. One of the benefits of publishing the minutes is that the membership might have views on future agendas; the more we include the membership in the process the better. |

| Both proposals have my support.
If there is anything particularly secretative in the minutes, they could be edited before posting onto the forum ... though, like Neil, I can't think of anything that we have to hide.
Same for agendas etc.
