| | In the last day or so all employers should have received this questionaire from Commerce and Employment. The survey is aimed at assessing the extent of the current provision by employers to flexible and family friendly employment arrangements and other associated matters. The conclusions drawn from the responses will inform the development of initiatives aimed at increasing participation in the workforce within Prorities 4 and 5 of the Government Business Plan. Chamber are fully supportive of Commerce and Employment in their quest to find out this information and, although we appreciate that our members are very busy running their business, would ask that you find a few moments to complete the questionaire and return it to Commerce and Employment by their deadline of 20 June 2008. Kind regards Carrie Birch

| | No survey here from C & E. but I think that hotels and restaurants are all about flexible working practices! If I got any more flexible, I would never be here. This is a very worthwhile survey, if working practices changed then our emplyment issues will disappear. (Oh look there goes the 7.30am Big Fat Pink Pig to Heathrow) For any such scheme to have a snowball in hells chance of working, we would need a decent level of unemployment to "stimulate" employee's into taking it on board. As there is no political will to see unemployment rise then the employee will always call the shots. |

| Recieved last week and sent back by return post. It was an interesting initiative and as a small business owner I was encouraged that C&E were communicating with me. Can we have it posted here as a PDF as a discussion document. There were some useful questions that would be worthy of debate.
Topic starter 1: Retirement
As we are in the fast moving technology business and it's generally a young man's game the whole notion of employing people until they were 70 left me cold.
Topic starter 2:Returning students
I want a single place to scope returning talent, it seems a little all over the place at the moment and would welcome any initiative that allowed me with a 'click' of a button to go to one site to see who's taking what degree, when they are leaving uni and a bio on them. I want local talent back home. We work closely with the CFE and have taken on an apprentice via work experience and then immediate employment - but that was just our good luck than a strategy of talent being delivered to our door. More access I have to who's developing their skills, the more I'll employ, train. |
