| I see that the Vazon Bay Hotel is up for sale after the owner couldn't get permission to
a)Change it into an old Peoples Home or
b)"leave the industry" depending on your perspective.
Whilst Carla Mcnulty Bauer says its a lovely position and hopes someone will invest in the visitor section to give the Vazon Bay the success it deserves is it really ever going to happen ?
What's the feeling ,keep it or loose it ?
Could it make a good site for new hotel development ? |

| It would make a fantastic site for one of the large town banks alleviating some of the pressure on town. To include:
- Office complex
- Restaurant/eaterie
- Surf/Watersports Centre
We need to think a little bit laterally and I wouldn't be adverse to considering one of the bigger operations taking up that site. Closer to the airport, lots of parking, easy access. I know which route I'd want to drive in the morning and it ain't the East Coast.
Left field or just a rubbish idea?

| | It would take a brave (and very rich) individual to invest in the site with an eye on future tourism !! |

| I think those are all great ideas Neil. A surf/watersports/extreme sports centre on the west coast... what could be better for the youth of the island. If we could find some way of tying this in with some office space, catering/tourism space, entertainment, and retail space to pay its way then we would be on to a winner. The problem with ideas like this on Guernsey is the complex needs to be a certain size to work, but this would be too large for guernsey... there's not enough people to make it viable.
At the 'Bright Young Things' event last night a 'youth' project won. Street Academy want to set up a 'space' run for the youth of the island by like minded individuals to pass on modern 'street' skills such as rapping, dance, art and music, with workshops run by skilled individuals. Surely this would tie in quite nicely too. Also the Guernsey Extreme Sports Association was looking for an indoor site for their ramps, and there is generally a lack of pop/rock music venues on the island at the moment. Perhaps the guernsey motorsport and velo club associations could get involved too and use it during their summer sprints.
Trouble is, at 1.7 million it just is not viable unless a lot of support, be it business or sponsorship, comes forward.
