| Dear Member BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS - Tuesday 29th April 2008, 6-8.30pm St James Bright Young Things is a competition for local entrepreneurs, aged 30 and under, which is based on a Dragons' Den style format. Entrepreneurs are asked to submit their business ideas and, after an initial judging stage, six finalists will go before a panel at a live judging evening, all hoping to win the Schroders prize of £5,000. Six successful Guernsey businessmen will act as judges. These are Tom Scott, Derek Coates, Ian Walker, Simon Torode, Charlie Mathieson and Julian Winser of Schroders. Schroders will award £5,000 to the business idea they think has the most potential. This is a one-off prize and does not give Schroders a stake in the candidates’ business. However the businessmen involved have stated that they would be very keen to back an idea with their own funds, in exchange for a percentage of the business, if they felt a project had the capability to do well. Tickets for the event at St James are free but needed to be booked by email from Genevieve Langford. Email address genevieve.langford@schroders.com Chamber is keen to support this event and to emphasise that whilst this might have a Dragons' Den feel, the emphasis will be on positive comments. Entrants can expect to receive constructive advice and should not feel inhibited to enter or worry that they might be made to look foolish by the judges as this is not the intention at all! Please support this event and encourage those around you who you might think have what it takes to enter the competition. Chamber Council Member, Ian Walker is one of the Judges and current YBG President, Simon Keys will be one of the team assessing the applications for selection to the short-list of six.
