At long last I have received some enquiry figures from VG for you to have a look at. In isolation they dont say a great deal but hopefully, as the data flow increases we may get more year on year figures to work with.

I think the overall picture looks ok, the promotion of the island earlier in the year will certainly boost figures for Jan Feb etc. but we may see a slight drop off in later months due to the money being spent earlier.

I think the one thing to look for is, if we know a drop has happened thenb we need to see traffic increase Visit Guernsey only get to know about their responses, its up to us to feed back information to let them know if the campaigns are working as most enquiries will go direct to indiviual businesses.

Reply from a member :-

Having looked at the hits VG has had I must say that a lack of information on previous years up to June means no comparison can be made. If I understand the figuers European numbers seem disapointingly low.

There must have been a log of Hits so previous levels should be shown

As more people use the internet and have broad band figuers will continue to rise until they plateau until all who intend being on line are.

It is clear that there are a lot more who just surf but never intend to visit Guernsey.

As I have said before the only way to find out what the booking patern is is for us all to be honest and give forward booking indication say two months in advance. This is what used to happen with a tourist inspector making the rounds.

I just cannot see the point of the present survey being so retrospective, I do not need to know how well I did last month. VG need to know how well we are booked for say August and m ore importantly Sept and Oct so they can target advertising.

Fortunatly I do not rely wholy on the Guernsey Guide and get as many hits from Country Cottages and the like, Having been in Self catering many years we have a loyal band of repeats.

So I do not have a moan, my first availability of a cottage is one in mid September, but then I know that prices are key and I prefer to be full than charge too much for the cottages campared to say Cornwall and then end up with gaps.

I agree whole heartedly with your comments but I think the problem is that VG have no forward booking patterns as they do not receive that information. I for one, as does everyone else know what our future bookings are so I feel we need to try to sort out some sort of simple trade survey to record such information. The problem I see with this is that most properties are reluctant to publish past trends never mind future bookings. I do know that there some efforts being made into a data capture system for hotels at least that will provide basic info on guests from location to date and length of stay and we are trying to encompass forward bookings as well.
