CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
NEWS RELEASE

WHY THE BIG BOYS DON’T OWN THE WEB
The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce are delighted to welcome as our speaker for the May Chamber Lunch, Nigel Botterill, founder and Chief Executive of a business empire turning over £6m and which includes some of the fastest growing businesses in the UK – MyMag, thebestof, Raring2go! and My Little Wrapper.
In 2007 thebestof was voted the best e-Company of the Year at the Sharp Edge Awards and towards the end of the year Nigel was named as one of the top 20 entrepreneurs in the country by BT. thebestof rocketed in at number 3 in the Sunday Times Fast Tract 100 League tables for technology companies and just recently the company won “Innovative Business of the Year” at the 2008 Fast Growth Awards.
Nigel started his career at Barclays before becoming Marketing Director at mobile phone airtime business, Single Point. He moved to Card Protection Plan as Managing Director where he took the turnover from £3m to £25m in less than two years. Fed up with making money for other people, Nigel then set up his own marketing consultancy, N5 in 2002, which is the business behind MyMag, thebestof, Raring2go!, Quickie and My Little Wrapper.
Nigel was invited to talk at the Chamber lunch by local franchisee and chamber member, Kate Heywood, who has been running thebestof.co.uk/guernsey website for just over a year. Kate met Nigel shortly after taking on The Best of Guernsey and discovered that he spent holidays here in his younger days and was keen to revisit the island.
Nigel will be talking about how the internet can transform your local business in 2008.
Chamber President, Paul Luxon said, “Little old Guernsey, a 60,000 population island, is extremely lucky to have secured Nigel as our next Chamber Lunch guest speaker. His track record and high profile success as a global player on the World Wide Web should provide some fascinating insights into this fast moving business sector. Miss this one if you dare.”
The lunch will take place at Moore’s Hotel at 12.15 for 12.30pm on Tuesday 20th May. Bookings for individual places or tables can be made with the Chamber Office on 727483
