EFFICIENCY, DEVELOPMENT & PERSONNEL AT GUERNSEY POST

Paul Luxon, newly elected President of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce, is delighted to welcome the Chief Executive of Guernsey Post, Gordon Steele as the speaker for the April Chamber Lunch.

Following university, Gordon began his general management career with London Electricity where he prepared the organisation for competition and market opening.  He followed this as General Manager for Powergen where, amongst other duties, he had responsibility for gas and electricity sales to over five million customers.

At the Post Office, having joined the company at the start of its commercial journey and turnaround in 2001, Gordon set up and led a new telephony business with sales of over £100m and managed the retail business in 500 branches.  He also launched the business into personal finance services with a range that included credit cards, loans, motor and home insurance and took it to market leadership in the sale of foreign currency.

Gordon joined Guernsey Post as its chief executive in February 2007 at a time of significant challenge and change.  His brief is to improve its operating efficiency, develop new products and services and develop the capabilities of the organisation.  In his first year he has focused on unfreezing Guernsey Post with a step change in industrial relations, a new executive team, a new foreign exchange offer, the acquisition of a new operation, Batif, and setting the direction of the future.

Gordon will be talking about the reasons behind the recent acquisition of Batif, his drive for more efficiency and staff development.  Guernsey Post is facing challenges ahead and he will present the case for change and commercialisation.

Chamber President Paul Luxon said “at this critical time of change for Guernsey Post, as it deals with the combined issues of increased globalisation and Royal Mail’s demands, we look forward to hearing how Gordon intends driving our invaluable, local, Guernsey Post operation into the future”
