SAVING TAX PAYER’S MONEY – COULD JERSEY & GUERNSEY ACTUALLY WORK TOGETHER?

This is the thought provoking title of the February Chamber of Commerce lunch.

Following an offer made via the Jersey Evening Post, Jerseyman Kevin Keen published a letter to Senator Frank Walker, Jersey’s Chief Minister suggesting ideas for reducing the cost of the public sector in Jersey.

Included in this substantive letter was the suggestion that there must be many opportunities for Jersey and Guernsey to work together in administrative roles such as social security contributions, tax collection, passports, vehicle registrations and driving licence preparation (to name but a few) in order to reduce the cost to the public purse.

As both a Chartered Certified and Chartered Management Accountant and with senior managerial experience at the Le Riche Group and Jersey Dairy, Mr Keen now works as a business consultant helping Jersey companies to find cost reduction opportunities.  He was also President of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce from 2005-2007.

Chamber President Mark Trenchard said, “I am delighted and honoured that Kevin Keen who is from our sister isle will be our guest speaker at the February lunch.  In his role as President of the Jersey Chamber we discussed better co-operation between the Islands on many occasions. Previously I do not believe there was the political desire to do so but given the challenging economic times for both Islands certain collective functions appear very sensible. Mr Keen will deliver a speech that will be both stimulating and pertinent.”

The lunch will take place at Moore’s Hotel at 12.15 for 12.30pm on Tuesday 19 February.  Bookings for individual places or tables can be made with the Chamber office on 727483.
